Optics & Coverage – Week 2

Welcome back to our Optics and Coverage video, Week 2. In the grow light industry we hear the word coverage used in LED and HID situations constantly. While you may have a general understanding what coverage is, we feel it’s important to go over some key differences of each system and its importance.

Have a look at our video. Enjoy!

Coverage is usually measured in watts per foot, 50w per foot is the industry standard when talking about HID bulbs in the grow light industry. At AdvancedLEDLights we recommend 30-35 watts per foot when using LED grow light systems. It’s important to note that while not all grow light LED companies use secondary optics; their benefits when used can have a huge impact. Coverage is very important, this way you get the most out of your coverage while still maintaining the power you need for your plants to grow.

By using the right optics for the right LED we are able to increase intensity without sacrificing the grow area’s
coverage. Using the wrong optics can give you less than optimal results and omitting the lenses completely could spread the light out reducing its intensity in the cover space drastically.

Stay tuned in the next few weeks for our full video and article explaining optics, secondary optics, and what to look for.
